Infants and Babies (0–2 Years)

Baby eczema often begins in the first few months of life, commonly affecting the cheeks, forehead, scalp and limbs. It can cause redness, dryness, intense itching and disturbed sleep.

Our approach focuses on gentle skincare, age-appropriate medical treatments and practical guidance to help parents soothe their baby's skin and manage eczema flare-ups confidently.

Toddlers and Young Children (2–5 Years)

As children grow, eczema commonly affects the elbows, knees, wrists and ankles. Frequent scratching may lead to broken skin, infections and restless nights.

We help families manage flare-ups with personalised treatment plans, regular moisturising and simple skincare routines that fit into everyday life.

School-Aged Children and Teenagers

Older children may experience dry, thickened or itchy eczema patches on the hands, neck and skin folds. Heat, sweat, sports and exam stress can also trigger flare-ups.

Our approach combines effective eczema management with age-appropriate education, helping children understand their skin and gradually take greater responsibility for their skincare.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my Child Development Account (CDA) at The Skincare Clinic?

Yes! The Skincare Clinic is a Baby Bonus Approved Institution in Singapore, and parents can use their child's Child Development Account (CDA) to pay for eligible eczema consultations and treatments.

Whether your baby or child needs help with eczema flare-ups, sensitive skin or wet wrap therapy, our team is here to support your family's eczema care journey.

Simply let our friendly clinic staff know you would like to use your child's CDA when paying. Please remember to bring your child's CDA ATM card when visiting our clinic. CDA usage is subject to the prevailing Baby Bonus Scheme eligibility and payment requirements.

Will my baby or child outgrow eczema?

Many babies and children experience fewer eczema flare-ups as they grow older, and some outgrow eczema completely. Others may continue to have sensitive or eczema-prone skin into adulthood. Early treatment, regular moisturising and a consistent skincare routine can help control eczema and protect your child's skin barrier.

Are steroid creams safe for babies and children?

Yes. Topical corticosteroids are a recommended first-line treatment for childhood eczema flare-ups when used at the appropriate strength and duration under medical guidance.

At The Skincare Clinic, we guide parents on safe steroid use and offer non-steroidal anti-inflammatory treatment options for suitable babies and children.

Read the Singapore ACE Clinical Guideline on Eczema.

Is eczema on my baby's face and cheeks common?

Yes. Facial eczema is common in babies and infants, particularly on the cheeks, forehead and chin. As infant skin is delicate, treatment should be gentle and age-appropriate. The Skincare Clinic provides personalised care for baby eczema, including facial eczema and sensitive skin.

Should my baby or child avoid certain foods because of eczema?

Most children with eczema do not need to avoid specific foods unless a food allergy is confirmed. Unnecessary food restrictions may affect growth and nutrition.

The Skincare Clinic provides skin prick testing for suspected allergies in babies and children, where clinically appropriate. Skin prick tests help identify possible immediate allergic sensitivities, including to certain foods and environmental allergens. Results are interpreted alongside your child's symptoms and medical history, as a positive test alone does not confirm a clinical allergy.

How often should I bathe my baby or child with eczema?

A short daily bath or shower with lukewarm water is suitable for most babies and children with eczema. Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser when needed, avoid hot water and apply moisturiser immediately afterwards to protect the skin barrier.

Can my child with eczema go swimming?

Yes. Most children with well-controlled eczema can swim. Apply moisturiser before swimming, rinse off chlorine or salt water afterwards and moisturise again. Avoid swimming during severe eczema flare-ups or when the skin is infected or extensively broken.

Is wet wrap therapy suitable for babies and children with severe eczema?

Yes. Wet wrap therapy may benefit selected babies and children with moderate-to-severe eczema, particularly during significant flare-ups.

The Skincare Clinic provides medically supervised outpatient wet wrap therapy in Singapore, allowing suitable children to receive intensive eczema care without hospital admission, where clinically appropriate.
